Litigation By The Numbers® - Fourth Edition

by Julie A. Goren, Esq.

(current edition revised as of July 2008)

"the essential up-to-date California civil litigation handbook"

[New for 1/08:  We now publish a Substantive Companion.  Be sure to check it out.]

[ NOTE TO PROFESSIONALS:  Every legal professional needs to keep up on current rules!  PLEASE do not purchase any procedural guide without first checking when it was last updated and how often it will be updated.]

Who is Litigation By The Numbers For?

It's for everyone, of any experience level, already in the legal field, anyone wanting to enter the legal field, and anyone involuntarily involved in the legal field.

For the novice and anyone re-locating to CaliforniaLitigation By The Numbers® - Fourth Edition is widely used by people who want to learn the in's and out's of California civil litigation.  It's a required text in many paralegal and legal secretary courses, is used in-house by new attorneys, paralegals, and litigation secretary trainees, and is recommended by legal recruiters!

Why?

Because it simply explains California litigation procedure -- the phases of the lawsuit, the purpose of each phase, the multitude of rules and codes that must be followed to accomplish a task correctly (including the California Rules of Court, the Code of Civil Procedure, and mandatory Judicial Council forms).  It does so with step-by-step instructions on how, procedurally, to accomplish a particular task, from preparing the document to filing and serving it timely, and to properly calendaring response dates (which requires knowing the statutory deadline, how the time is extended depending upon the method of service, and what to do with holidays)!  It is an absolute must for any legal professional re-locating to California!  (It's very different here!)

For the experienced - quick UP-TO-DATE reference:  This California civil procedure handbook, updated every January and July, is used by legal professionals with 30+ years of experience as a quick, up-to-date refresher on California's ever-changing forms, filing and service deadlines, court rules and code sections, format changes, and as a starting point for more in-depth research.

Why?

Because it can be counted on to be up-to-date.  If you draft a motion for summary judgment in 2008, using as a form the one you did in 2007, you'd be making a big mistake!  The mandatory format for objecting to evidence changed in 1/07.  The deadline for objecting to evidence changed from 3 court days prior to the hearing to 14 days prior to the hearing.  Imagine missing that deadline!  In 1/2008 another significant change was made -- the mandatory format for separate statements was revised.  Our Update Service Subscribers were advised of all of these changes before they went into effect.
